Alnes lighthouse has through several lifetimes enlightend the fairway of the seafarers in these local waters. Especially the smaller fishing vessels have through ages been relying on this tall and proud building, both to navigate safely through the hazards outside Alnes, and to use the lighthouse as a guide to find the good fishing spots. The importance of this lighthouse is still vital today, but the automation has taken over operation of the vital signals. Therefore, the keeper's house is today a good evidence that local community can provide something that tourists, visitors and residents flock to for a taste of: a cafe that offers both home-made coffee food, lighthouse history and other good stories, and even art exhibitions from both international known artists and from good local artists. A trip up the tower to see the stunning views of the untamed sea, I can warmly recommend, and the many steps is well worth the hassle.
